My name is Allison Aaron, and I am your Nutrition Curator. I am a Registered Dietitian and a Culinary Nutritionist.
My passion for nutrition began when I was nine. Yes, nine. You see, I was a little girl who loved to eat….a lot. I just figured, “more is more.” If I enjoyed eating, why not just keep on eating? Weight, nutrition, and health were just not part of my vocabulary.
But those habits started taking a toll on my weight. And yet, being the innocent and naïve little girl that I was, I had no idea.
All it took was one day, one moment, and a few harsh words from a random stranger, and I finally saw what everyone had been seeing all along. I was overweight. Something had to change, and I knew that only I had the power to make that happen.
So I “relearned” how to eat. I discovered that there was a difference between healthy, nutrient dense foods, and unhealthy, energy dense, foods. I realized that portion control was an actual concept – that there was a real difference between one, two, and three slices of pizza. Most importantly, I saw first hand that change could be achieved through food, that health could be achieved through food.
