FRENCH TOAST

IMG_6759.jpg

Whoever said you can’t eat French toast and still lose weight is just wrong. At 4Q Method we are always looking for ways to tweak traditionally indulgent foods so we can eat them all week long and save our indulgences for something else. For this dish we increased the healthy fat and protein, opted for whole grain bread instead of the usual challah, and didn’t add a single gram of added sugar. And the best part is, it still tastes insanely delicious. You’re definitely going to want to add this one to your breakfast rotation!

INGREDIENTS: serves 2-4

  • 1/2 cup unsweetened almond milk or low-fat cow’s milk

  • 1 egg

  • 2 egg whites

  • 1 tsp cinnamon

  • 1/2 tsp vanilla

  • 1/8 tsp nutmeg

  • 1/8 tsp cardamom

  • 2 tsp ghee, butter, avocado oil, or olive oil

  • 4 slices 100% whole grain bread (we love Ezekiel sprouted bread)

  • 1/2 banana, sliced

  • 3/4 cup berries

  • 2-4 tbsp natural nut butter (depending on how many servings this yields)

DIRECTIONS:

  1. In a flat dish, whisk together milk, egg, egg whites, cinnamon, vanilla, nutmeg, and cardamom.

  2. Then soak each bread slice in liquid mixture, flipping so bread is fully saturated.

  3. Melt 1 tsp of ghee in a skillet on medium-high heat. Place a slice of bread on it and allow it to cook for 1-2 minutes, then flip and cook for another minute. Bread coating should be golden brown. Set aside on a plate and repeat with your second slice. Then add the rest of the ghee in your man to melt and repeat again with the remaining 2 slices of bread.

  4. Top with banana and berries and drizzle nut butter over everything.
