Now that we’ve got the Food Plan covered, let’s talk execution...aka Game Plan. Below are some of our 4Q tips for how to navigate those long weekend scenarios to help you stay on track.

  1. Prepare for long car rides.

    • Summer weekends may call for heavy traffic, but don’t let the traffic throw you off when it comes to your health goals! Before you leave, plan your travel set up. If you’re leaving after a long day of work and you know you won’t get to your destination until 10pm, bring your dinner in the car! If you anticipate traffic, bring some snacks!  Being prepared with balanced snacks like Splitz or Bada Beans will help keep you full and satisfied from the nutrient dense ingredients. Plus, they are shelf stable so you can keep them in your car in the summer heat without worrying they’ll go bad.

  2. Bring some staple food items with you.

    • Whether you’re staying at a hotel or at a friend's house, it’s always a good idea to bring some of your go-to foods along to ensure you are prepared with what makes you feel your best. For example, if you love your wasa crackers with breakfast or as a part of your snack, why leave it behind? Craving something sweet after your dinner? Pack a bar of dark chocolate with you to enjoy! Just because you’re not at your home, doesn’t mean you can’t enjoy your daily favorites!

  3. Take charge of the Fresh Direct order.

    • Renting a house with a bunch of friends for the weekend? Do yourself (and your friends) a favor and take charge of the grocery order! This way, you can order everyone’s favorite food items while still sneaking in your own food choices. And who knows -- you may introduce them to their new favorite foods!

  4. Bring a refillable water bottle.

    • This is especially important for a long weekend in the heat. Bringing your own refillable water bottle is not only better for the environment, but it will also help keep you on track with your daily water intake.

  5. Make nutrient dense swaps when eating family style meals.

    • We never want you to worry when it comes to eating at communal style meals! There are always nutrient dense swaps for any meal that will leave you feeling your best! Think, cauliflower pizza crust for make your own pizza night or lettuce wraps for taco night. Check out the shopping list under the *Food Plan* for product links and healthy swap ideas!

  6. Sip and hydrate!

    • We’re all about having a good time and celebrating with your favorite hard seltzer or cocktail! However, while drinking there’s no need to chug (unless it’s water ;)) so, take your time! Savor your drink by putting it down between sips and drinking water in between. This way, you can still enjoy yourself without finishing three drinks in under an hour ;).

  7. Get in some movement!

    • After a week at a desk, a long weekend is the perfect time to move your body! Make a plan with a friend or family member to go for a bike ride, do a workout video, practice yoga, hike, take a long walk, or go on a run. Having an exercise plan with a partner can help hold you accountable in achieving your weekend workout goals! Trust us, your future self will thank you for the movement.

  8. Have fun!

    • At the end of the day, we want you to have fun! Obsessing about food when everyone else is enjoying themselves is not how you want to spend your weekend. So just plan ahead, make a game plan, and enjoy!
